LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL THE UNIVERSITY OF ULSTER FACULTY OF ARTS SCHOOL OF CREATIVE ARTS & TECHNOLOGIES (SCARTE) IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE A SEMINAR ENTITLED: `Psychology & Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL): Made in Heaven or married in Hell ?' by Dr. Shaaron Ainsworth from School of Psychology & Learning Sciences Research Institute University of Nottingham, England TUESDAY, 16th October, 2012 1.00 P.M. Foyle Arts Building, Magee Campus Room MQ-226, 1st Floor Abstract Psychologists are often drawn to the area of Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) as it offers a way to test and refine their theories of learning. However, over the last decade the theories, technologies, methods, and contexts in which we research have all changed, often fairly dramatically. In this talk, I shall explore how the field is changing: from its beginnings in behaviourist and cognitively inspired individualised learning environments tested in the artificial contexts to today where we work with a plethora of technologies from handhelds to large screen displays, in contexts which range far from the laboratory and explore theories which take into account social, emotional, motivational, personality factors as well as cognitive ones. In addition, I will talk about ZOMBIES. I'll end by reflecting on whether we manage these complex inter-relating factors (theoretically and methodologically) so that the symbiotic relationship between psychology and TEL can continue to be a relevant and fruitful one. ********************************************************************** Biography Dr. Shaaron Ainsworth is an Associate Professor in the School of Education, University of Nottingham.
